while suffer yourself aren't pushing any new boundaries what they do, they do well. the guitar work is strong and technically well played full of interesting riffs; the lead plays well off of the gloomy rhythm chords. "inner sanctum" is a particularly good opening song, full of intriguing patterns - the whole album is full of repeating patterns. the vocalist has a deep growl - not harsh - and its interspersed with a kind of 'spoken' vocal which makes for a mighty combination. the drumming is, for the most, part delightfully slow well able to control the pace and the transitions between tempo changes. the bass is a little buried but surfaces from the depths on occasion.
overall this is a good release reminiscent of when MDB were good...well.... better. the guitar tonality does sound the same throughout which is sometimes good, sometimes bad but the tempo keeps things interesting. it might take a while to fully appreciate this but it's a little gem waiting to be found. pure doom with a few added extras, kind of old school for the purist; highly addictive. gloomy, dark, pulled from the depths of doom...
