there isn't much to this 3 track offering "The Weavings of Hagal's Aett" from Hrungnir and that is what makes it such an aural treat and makes it stand out from the crowd.
this is extremely minimal but therein lies it's beauty. it has been mixed and mastered so well that you don't even miss the cacophony of sounds that might be 'normal' within the genre of this release. but with no extraneous sounds it can seem cold and distant, and while i marvel at the discipline of hrungnir not to have overfilled the songs, it can also seem too 'technical' at times.
overall i am mesmerized by this release. the sparseness of the 3 songs makes me think of them as a sinister slightly macabre 22 minute soundtrack for a creepy shadow play with grotesque puppetry. highly enjoyable minimal dark ambient and i cannot wait to hear more from hrungnir.
