1. Greetings, denizens ov Cyrax, and thanks for taking the time to share your story with our readers! What can you tell us about Cyrax these days? Anything new and exciting we should be aware ov?
Cesare: Definitely! As well as you know our latest record is about to be released! So stay tuned for news in the near future.
2. You recently released "Reflections". How has the release gone? Anything other than how you expected it to go?
Cesare: Well, considering our debut album was just a small extent release, it was quite a success.
3. Now, I find the name Cyrax to be very interesting and unique. What can you tell us ov Cyrax's origins? Where did you get the name, and what ideas drive your music?
Cesare: Marco, this is all yours.
Marco: Cyrax is the name of a Mortal Kombat character. It well represents the power and all influences you'll find in our music: power, thrash, electronic, blues.. everything!
4. How would you describe your music? Any differences between what you perceive it to be versus what your fans perceive it to be?
Cesare: Our music sometimes reminds me of James Joyce. I think it's quite challenging to have the right feeling about our music after just a few plays; it requires attention. A mature listener sure will find something good in there, but we take no umbrage if someone says we're too complicated.
Marco: Marco: Well, I do not consider Cyrax only as an old school heavy progressive metal band. Next album "Pictures" is the natural evolution of this sound, from Carmina Burana to Mozart, from Rossini to Verdi and obviously metal influences!
5. Please illuminate our readers to your modus operandi when it comes to crafting your sound. What drives you to create? What do you feel throughout your creative process?
Cesare: As far as I'm concerned, music comes from within. I need no fatigue to shape a sound or create a tune, it's something that flows on it's own.
Marco: everything starts from an idea: vocal lines, riffs, choirs, drums. Then developing to make the most beautiful lyrics and music.
Paolo: during the centuries many different musical views developed: we think at the day very little of the cultural past has been absorbed, and we try to compensate. In general, knowledge of the past makes possible research activities.
6. What influences do you draw upon when coming up with tracks for your various works / styles? Any specifics such as bands?
Cesare: My influences sure include bands as Symphony X, Kamelot, Iron Maiden, Epica and Rhapsody, but also Basil Poledouris, Hans Zimmer, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney and such.
Marco: Savatage, Queen, Rage, Ayreon and classical music and.. what else?
7. Returning to your debut release, "Reflections," [which is very good, in this interviewer's opinion!] what sort ov influences and ideas brought this release to fruition? Anyone you want to thank?
Cesare: Your turn pal.
Marco: Antonio Rubuano for his beautiful solos, Larsen Premoli for orchestration and Devide De Stefano for choirs!
8. Are there any side projects your members divide their attention between that we should look out for?
Cesare: Huh, we're just entering a world of pain ;) Personally I do have a LOT of side projects, but it would take too much time to point them all out, so I will skirt the issue, for now.
Marco: Shivers Addiction! Great music and obviously great singer at all!
Paolo: electronic synthesis busied myself for a lot of time; however, made possible some self-produced creations I developed on SoundCloud platform. Also, sometimes I provide an older keyboarder with guitar recordings for his songs.
9. You're based out ov Milan, Italy, yes? How is the musical scene over there? Any good underground acts besides yours that our readers should be aware ov?
Cesare: Do we have a musical scene here? No, I guess not. Live music is dead and rotten in Italy, we are the land of appetizers and late-evening-cocktails; no one seems to care about music anymore. So, we have many amazing underground acts that would deserve attention, but they struggle to survive, just like we do.
Marco: In Italy live shows are only possible if you are a cover band or a tribute band. If you play original music you do not have crowds, money and obviously great shows
10. Upon doing research into your band, I noticed that Cyrax is currently signed to Musea Records. Canyou tell our readers more about this label?
Cesare: I know little about it. It's based in France, and in the past it distribuited bands such as Anglagard, so it's cool!
Marco:We chose for its history with progressive rock since '80. Musea Records is well known all over the world as a great label!
11. Thanks for your time, everyone! Any closing thoughts you have to share?
Cesare: It's been a pleasure to be with you, hope to hear from you very soon again! In the end we're just human beings, let music light our way ^_^
