En Nihil/Filth - Black Earth

It's a guessing game, really. What you have here is a cassette, an analog medium. Yet, on it, you hear digital sounds coming, going, marching, decomposing and disappearing into oblivion. Like something that was recorded in the future, by using a lone surviving cassette recorder that somehow kept on working after all the microchips died. It witnessed the downfall of civilization with all the stupid bleeps, radiation and static noise it used to make, and recorded the sounds of it being swallowed by wet ground.

The two artists on this release don't differ much in their approaches. Both use similar means to similar ends. And Black Earth consists of four tracks by each. Not that you will notice where the individual tracks start or end, or even care about the song titles. Some of it was actually recorded live on tape, and the randomness of it can be attributed to human intervention, but it doesn't make it any less inhuman. It's maybe something completely different to people who created it, but to this writer Black Earth is just an epilogue, an epitaph to something, and to get the full story you might try turning your PC off, moving your electronic gadgets away from you, listening to this tape in darkness, and then trying to get out of your home and seeing what it feels like.
