Q: Hi there, so I've listened to both Aberration Nexus releases. "Libro Lacet" and "Gods & Ashes". Both have very good production quality. Do you do your own recording? and if you do your own recording do you do it digitally? what recording program if digital?
A: All recording, mixing and mastering is done by myself on my (very shitty old) laptop with Ipod headphones. I use an antiquated version of Adobe Audition for the recording, editing and production process.
Q: What equipment are you using currently?
A: I have one (shitty) guitar, one (shittier) bass, my (really shitty) voice, a $10 PC mic and my prehistoric laptop. I use a Vox Amplug for recording guitars and bass. Nothing expensive or fancy. I don't believe that any of that shit is necessary. Just the desire to make it happen!
Q: How is the new material coming out?
A: I think people are in for a shock with the newest material. The songs are coming out very different to what has been released previously. The tracks for the full length have had a good going over and are much more aggressive and intense. I've always written what I've wanted to hear and that is more pronounced with the latest songs. It's still very much Aberration Nexus - but my song writing has matured somewhat and there is a bit more depth to the music nowadays.
Q: Do you have a favorite song of yours?
A: I love all of them and I take great pride in my work. My favourites if I had to choose would be the new single (yet to be released) "The Solvent That Cleanses The Earth", "Hawking" - from Libro Iacet & "In The End of Days" - from the full length (TBA).
Q: Do you have any other projects besides Aberration Nexus?
A: No. I have no time or real interest in doing anything else at this point. Musically, Aberration is everything!
Q: What have you been listening to recently?
A: Not much to be honest. I tend to not listen to much. If anything, I suppose I've been listening to the new Behemoth album and some old black metal circa early-mid nineties.
Q: What gauge stings do you use? and what tuning?
A: I use drop c tuning. Not a traditional tuning for black metal but it lends a certain depth and heaviness to it. Gives a good range and some killer chords. As for strings, it's been so long since I've bought any I couldn't really tell you! I like heavy gauge strings with a wound g.
Q: I know you play all the instruments in Aberration Nexus; which one do you like the most?
A: I don't have a favorite instrument. I love both the guitar and bass. Writing drums is a great challenge that I enjoy and hate at the same time - much like writing lyrics.
Q: Are there any genres other than metal that you listen to?
A: What is this "genres other than metal?!" Hahaha! I usually have classical music playing on the radio through the day. Occasionally I'll check out some new tunes on youtube or something but like I said, I don't really listen to much.
Q: Anything you'd like to add?
A: Thanks for the opportunity to speak with you and thanks to everyone for the support! Follow the Aberration Nexus facebook page to keep up to date with developments.
