quite a bit of rewinding. Bulgaria-based Yhdarl is quite good. The
nightmarish "Symbols of Blood" slowly introduces swirling, circling guitars
and desperate screams, followed by bass and drums doing only a bare minimum, but a minimum that is well placed. And it stays like that. For half an hour there are not many changes, just someone's painful fantasy with things
becoming more or less clear as you are progressing through, basically, one
and the same wall of sound. There is a reward, though - somewhere after the
20-minute mark "Symbols of Blood" becomes a real song and there is an
obvious feeling of accomplishment in the end. whatever it was, no matter how
bad the experience, in the end you get a release.
As for Zebulon Kosted... Just skip it. Rewind. Three minutes of "evil intro"
sounds, but then some sort of slow blackened doom that is neither here nor
there. Forced and fake, and that's before you hear the vocals. First, too
loud. Hear it? TOO LOUD. Then, whether this guy was trying to be mysterious
or evil or whatever black metal fantasy was in his head, it's just the sound
of a drunken Balkan shepherd standing on a hill and calling his sheep. Or
something. It's funny for a few seconds, but it goes on for damn well too
long. Someone just went full retard here. There's a tempo change or two,
again someone trying to do weird black metal "as seen on facebook" and
failing. Come to think of it, in the end the sheep probably came home and
took over the microphone. And then all the other instruments.
